Topeka Race Against Breast Cancer

The Race Against Breast Cancer, Inc (RABC) was established to pay for a full range of screening/diagnostic mammography services to those who live and work in Northeast Kansas counties who are in need of financial assistance.  Our mission is “Improving health through education, access, early detection, screening, and breast health awareness.”

If you are interested in obtaining a no cost mammogram through the RABC, please call the RABC office at (785) 271-1500. Our qualification guidelines are available on the No Cost Mammograms page.

Your donation to the Race Against Breast Cancer has the potential to save lives!  The earlier cancer is detected, the better the outcomes are for the patient.  The Race Against Breast Cancer works year around to ensure that Northeast Kansans in financial and medical need have access to mammography screenings and breast health education.  With your help we can run the Race Against Breast Cancer – a race we cannot afford to lose!

Awareness, Advocacy, Support

The Race Against Breast Cancer, Inc. (RABC) began in 1991 as a community coalition whose mission is to confront the challenge of breast cancer in Shawnee County. The organization has grown into an independent registered 501C (3) not-for-profit corporation and to date has funded almost 12,000 annual screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms and ultrasounds to those in need of financial assistance in northeast Kansas counties.   A volunteer board of directors consisting of community representatives, medical providers and hospital representatives oversees the corporation.  Our mission is “Improving health through education, access, early detection, screening, and breast health awareness.”

What we do

Awareness

No matter who you are or where you live, breast cancer may touch your life.

According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early, and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is over 99%. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams, and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms.

RABC provides more than just No Cost Mammograms.  Funding also helps provide educational materials to health clinics.

Support

Through generous donations from the community and multiple fundraising events, RABC pursues a goal of providing breast cancer education and early detection.

The RABC is not supported by funds from the Susan G Komen Foundation, the United Way or government funding. Simply put, the RABC is self supported by those in Northeast Kansas who share our desire to see breast cancer caught in its earliest stages.

No-Cost Mammograms

The RABC program funds screening/diagnostic mammograms for over 400 individuals in northeast Kansas each year and reaches hundreds more through community awareness and fundraising efforts. Breast cancer impacts not only women, but also their families, friends, workplace, and community.  Breast cancer does not discriminate based on gender and that is why the RABC program also pays for mammograms for men who have a medical and financial need for one.

Events

Topeka RABC hosts multiple fundraising events throughout the year.  These events include our signature 5k Run / Walk and our Swing for the RABC golf tournament.

We are grateful to everyone who participates, sponsors, volunteers, and promotes these events.
